Civilian Civil War Camp, Trenton, TN

As I mentioned in the previous blog, Trenton, TN, while I was in town shooting the teapot collection, hosted the traveling Civilian Civil War Camp, along with other expositions.  This particular group, The Alabama 17th, had been in town camping for about a week, and they travel all throughout the South following the historic route of its origins.

Although only a few stayed in the actual camp, more than seventy people would descend at dinner time.  Stews, Cornbread and pies were all prepared in dutch ovens and over the fire, a true feast.

Granny, the apothecary artist of the camp (so maybe not an actual grandmother) would play nurse to the entire group.  Here she is demonstrating how you would 'bleed' someone if they were running a fever.

I have thought about following them around their Southern journey a bit, as they are not only an excellent source of company, but offer a wealth of information about the time period.  I may also just want a slice of the homemade blueberry pie, or a bowl of slow-cooked beef stew with fresh cornbread.  Win-Win-Win.
